How are crowns fitted?
Crowns are usually fitted in 2 appointments: the first appointment at our SW Calgary dental office will be to prepare the damaged tooth to receive and support the crown. At the end of the first appointment, we will fit you with a temporary crown to allow you to eat and function normally. At the second appointment, we will insert the crown created for you on your prepared tooth.
What are crowns made of?
Crowns can be made of gold or tooth-coloured porcelain or zirconium. Modern dentistry also offers the porcelain-over-metal crown whose base is metal to stand up to the biting force and whose top is porcelain to look natural.
What is the purpose of a bridge?
If you have one or more missing teeth, having bridgework can be an option. Your options include:
- A “fixed” bridge is a crown or a connected series of crowns that are anchored to crowns on the teeth on either side of the gap; a bridge may also be restored with implants.
- A removable bridge (partial denture) is not anchored to remaining teeth and may be a cost-effective solution for some patients.
